Throwback: Narada Michael Walden-I Shoulda Loved Ya

“I Shoulda Loved Ya” is from Narada Michael Walden’s second album, The Dance Of Life. Walden co-wrote the song with Alee Willis and T.M. Stevens and it became his second big hit and most remembered for Stevens’ bass line at the beginning. Walden’s first success in the music industry came as a drummer with the Mahavishu Orchestra when he was 21. He started releasing music as a solo artist in the ’70’s and had his first chart breakthrough with 1979’s “I Don’t Want Nobody Else (To Dance With You)” from his first solo album, Awakening. He opened Tarpan studios in San Rafael, California in the ’80s and throughout the ’80’s and ’90’s he worked as a producer, drummer and songwriter for Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Phyllis Hyman, George Benson, Diana Ross, Angela Bofill, Shanice Wilson, Al Green and an even longer list of the biggest names in the R&B and rock industries. He earned Grammies for his work with Aretha Franklin on “Freeway of Love” and the soundtrack for The Bodyguard. Walden performed at the White House in 2012 with Mick Jagger, B.B.King, Trombone Shorty, Buddy Guy, Booker T. Jones and others as part of an all star band. Thunder 2013 is his 10th studio album and he released the book Whitney Houston in 2012.
