Brooklyn tween rockers Unlocking The Truth just signed a deal with Sony records that guarantees their support for two albums and an option for six. Bassist Alec Atkins, 13, drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12 and guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, are an African-American heavy metal trio. They were discovered by Eric Clapton’s drummer Steve Jordan in 2012 while playing in Washington Square Park. Their contract is a historical moment in the music industry because it hasn’t been since the days of Fishbone and Living Colour that an African-American rock band has received a major recording contract. They’ve already appeared at Coachella and they are currently on the Vans Warped Tour. The band also has a book and documentary about their musical journey coming soon.
