C & C Music Factory was lucky enough to make dance music that was respected in clubs and did well in the pop realm. “Things That Make You Go Hmmmm” was the third hit single from their debut album, Gonna Make You Sweat. The song was inspired by Arsenio Hall and it was another factor in the album’s platinum status. David Cole and Robert Civilles created the group after having minor success in The 28th Street Crew and 2 Puerto Ricans, a Blackman, and a Dominican. Freedom Williams’s sculpted physique and feel-good raps gave them an entertaining focal point as Civilles and Cole preferred to stay in the background. “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” and “Here We Go (Let’s Rock & Roll)” were the other two songs to go big from the project. “Pride (A Deeper Love)” would be another dancefloor success for the group and marked the end of their peak period as artists. They were not without controversy because of the way they used Martha Wash’s vocals without giving her credit until she took legal action. It was commonly believed that the public only wanted to see a young, skinny singer but Wash was later given proper credit for her work. Two more albums were released under the C and C Music Factory name but the group broke-up by 1994. David Cole passed in ’95 and Eric Cupper would join the group as his replacement in 2010. As of June 2014 Robert Civilles noted on Facebook that they were recording new music.
