Jacksonville, Florida native Jackie Moore started releasing singles in the late ’60’s including “Dear John” and “Loser Again” for the Shout and Wand labels. Her transition to Atlantic Records produced her revered Gold single “Precious Precious” and “Sweet Charlie Babe” both of which did well in the soul and pop markets. Moore’s vocals were soulful with a minimal rasp that reminded some people of Candi Staton who was also a soul singer from the south. “This Time Baby” was a song originally recorded by The O’Jays but became a big disco hit for Moore in 1979. Of her four album output fans are usually divided and either give more credit to her earlier work or her post-Atlantic recordings citing “Personally” and “With Your Love” as two of her most underrated songs overlooked by the general public. Moore retired from singing in the ’80’s but “This Time Baby” was last sampled in 2005 on the Freemasons’s “Love On My Mind” featuring Amanda Wilson.
