Throwback: Indeep-Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

Michael Cleveland is the songwriter/musician from New York City who assembled Indeep with singers Réjane Magloire and Rose Marie Ramsey in the early ’80’s. “Last Night A DJ Saved My Life” was an international dance success in the clubs and on the charts in 1983. The infectious bassline and glossy vocals about a DJ that saves a woman from heartbreak had rhythm for the dancefloor and was lucky to be released before terrestrial radio punished soulful dance music. “When Boys Talk” was their second and last significant single to enter classic status. Magloire later appeared on Technotronic’s first album and released a solo project in 2005. Mariah Carey covered “Last Night A DJ Saved My Life” for her ’80’s redux film/album Glitter.
