Cecil Womack known for his work as a songwriter and the group Womack and Womack passed on Friday in Africa. Womack started in the music business in a singing group with his brothers Friendly, Bobby, Harry and Curtis as The Womack Brothers and then The Valentinos under the guidance of Sam Cooke. Cecil later became a successful songwriter for Mary Wells, Patti LaBelle, Teddy Pendergrass, The O’Jays and George Benson. In the ’80’s he and his wife Linda began to record and perform as Womack and Womack. Their Love Wars album from 1983 became their signature work because of the success of “Baby I’m Scared Of You” and “Love Wars.” Circular Motion was the last of their seven studio recordings and it was released in 2007 after they had changed their names to reflect their new African identities and home.
