D.C.’s Godfather of Go-go Chuck Brown passed today after a lengthy fight with pneumonia. Brown is famous for his Go-Go hit “Bustin’ Loose” that was famously sampled by Nelly for “Hot In Herre.” The singer had been on the D.C. scene since the ’60’s and was an influence on Go-go bands in the area like EU, Trouble Funk and Rare Essence. He has a discography of 22 albums and in 2009 a D.C. street was renamed Chuck Brown Way in honor of him.
