Belita Woods who was singer with Brainstorm and the P-Funk All Stars passed on Monday at the age of 63. Woods is the voice that made Brainstorm’s “Lovin’ Is Really My Game,” “This Must Be Heaven” and “We’re On Our Way Home” classic tunes when R&B radio still existed. “Hot For You” was sampled by Marc Kinchen on his club staple “Feel The Fire.” She starting touring with the P-Funk All-Stars in 1992 and gave gospel gritty renditions of “The Girl Is Bad” among other songs in their huge catalog. Last year the singer had a health crisis when she had a heart attack and needed open heart surgery. Several members of Detroit’s R&B community held a benefit for her medical expenses at Bert’s Warehouse. Ms. Woods can now sing and jam with Eddie Hazel, Tiki Fulwood, Garry Shider and Glen Goins.
