Cesaria Evora, known as the “Barefoot Diva” from Cape Verde passed away a few days ago. She was a rare singer of morna, the music of her native land. Her career started later in life when her debut album La Diva Aux Pieds Nus was released in 1988. The 1995 album Cesaria raised her profile to the world and several dance mixes of her music made her popular with club crowds. In 2004 she won a Grammy for the Voz d’Amor album. Evora’s last recording was 2009’s Nha Sentimento.
