R.I.P. J. Blackfoot


J. Blackfoot, a soul singer from Greenville, Mississippi passed yesterday. Blackfoot briefly sang as a leader with the Bar-Kays after the plane crash that killed Otis Redding and four other members of the band. He became a member of David Porter’s and Isaac Hayes’ Soul Children group in 1968. The group had three top-ten hits with “The Sweeter He Is,” “Hearsay” and “I’ll Be The Other Woman.” They dissolved in 1979 and Blackfoot went solo and had his commercial peak with “Taxi” in 1983. He recorded a total of 14 albums with 2009’s Soles Of My Shoes being his last offering.
