Cleveland – When radio personality Lynn Tolliver puts his mind to something, he tends to get results. The popular Cleveland, OH disc jockey is the current host of “The Sunday Gospel Hour” on WCCD 1000 AM and “Sessions with Lynn Tolliver” on the Jay King Radio Network on BlogTalkRadio.com. Tolliver however, knows a little something about penning a classic tune. His 1983 song, “I Need A Freak,” was sampled by the Black Eyed Peas for the group’s hit single, “My Humps,” garnering him two BMI Awards and a Grammy! He’s hoping the digital release of his current single, “I Cry” (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/davetolliver1 ) makes a similar impact as proceeds from the sales will go to charitable causes.
“I Cry” written by Lynn Tolliver and performed by Men at Large recording artist Dave Tolliver, on Full Belly Records, is a beautiful, heart-wrenching ballad which speaks to the overwhelming sadness prevalent in the world day. Full proceeds from sales of the single go to two organizations striving to make a change. Tolliver is donating 50% to activist Yvonne Pointer’s non-profit organizations (http://www.yvonnepointer.com) and the other half to the Cleveland Foundation, (http://www.clevelandfoundation.org/) an organization that puts charitable dollars to work where they are needed most in the community.
Yvonne Pointer has been a pivotal inspirational force for Tolliver. After the violent murder of her daughter, Pointer triumphantly channeled the pain of her traumatic loss into the successful establishment of the Gloria Pointer Scholarship. The scholarship provides annual $1,000 stipends to inner city young ladies at Cleveland’s John Hay High School, who have experienced hardships due to violence. Pointer went on to further establish the Gloria Pointer Teen Movement in Ghana, West Africa, feeding and educating youth there as well. Since its inception in 2004, more than 5,000 youth have benefited from the program.
Expresses Tolliver, “After watching the situation in Haiti, and seeing how tragedy can strike, like it did with Katrina in New Orleans, noting all the murders and child abductions, the recent foreclosure crisis in America and all the grief that people go through, the song “I Cry” was inspired to me. In my heart as I look around, I know the world could have a balance. I know there are avenues that can bring sensible peace and food to all of us. I know that by taking the right path, our lives can be enriched.”
“I am most moved by the efforts of Yvonne Pointer because she remains a true pillar. Instead of letting the loss of her daughter destroy her, she continues to spread the God given love she has been blessed with to help others.”
“I Cry” is available for purchase and download at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/davetolliver1. David “POET” Tolliver is preparing a rap version of “I Cry” and Stephon J. Davis is producing a video which is planned for later release. Purchase the single now and support Tolliver’s effort to continue to bring joy to the world.
