Maybach Music Group continues to solidify it’s stake in the rap game with the release of a new mixtape from DC’s-finest Wale. Wale took to Twitter last Wednesday at 1:11pm EDT to upload “The Eleven One Eleven Theory†as a make-good to fans who helped him reach 1 million followers on the social networking site disrupting service for not only Hulkshare, but another download portal, Sendspace. According to Hulkshare, the traffic surrounding the downlad to its server resulted in temporary crash to the site. CEO Ted Brinkofski commented, â€This is actually the first time it’s due to an exisitng file. It’s certainly an exciting milestone, but not a pleasureable one.†While other major acts have used Hulkshare to release music, Wale’s newest effort was the first time the site experienced such technical difficulties. The result lead to 7 trending topics on Twitter associated with Wale and the mixtape.
With over 100k downloads in the first few hours of release, the album has received an overwhelming response across the blogosphere. Russell Simmons’ GlobalGrind.com stated, “Wale is continuously letting us know that he is a great contender in the music industry.†Examiner.com heralded Wale as “one of the best rappers in the game, and he’s put in some major work to get there. [T]he DC rapper always brings his brilliant wordplay to every tape.†OkayPlayer.com summed up the expereince with, “By 2:22pm, I have digested it and found it post-worthy. By 3:33pm, I predict you will be well into it, too.†The mixtape is still available on Jay-Z’s LifeandTimes.com: http://lifeandtimes.com/wale-the-eleven-one-eleven-theory.
While the mixtape continues to hit up on the streets, Wale’s radio picture is just as impressive. His single “That Way,†featuring Jeremih and label boss Rick Ross, was the #1 Most Added song at Urban Mainstream this week with rotation pick-ups in over 40 markets. The video from the single will be available in the coming weeks.
Earlier this summer, Wale received rave reviews for his performance on Self Made Vol. 1 which debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard chart and featured appearances from Maybach Music’s Rick Ross, Pill, Meek Mill, Gunplay, Torch and Teedra Moses with additional contributions from Jadakiss, J. Cole, CyHi The Prynce, Curren$y and Jeremih. In addition to Self Made Vol 1., Wale has made a number of standout performances on a number of recent tracks such as the multi-platinum single “No Hands.â€
Wale was previously signed to Interscope, releasing his critically acclaimed debut, Attention Deficit, after gaining a cult following on Internet blog sites for his clever wordplay and renowned mixtapes. On his reason for signing Wale to his Maybach Music Group imprint, Ross told MTV, “Just me being a fan of Wale’s lyrics, he’s a lyricist, he’s a fly dude. I feel like he’s gonna make a really huge impact over the next few years.”
Wale is currently on the Roc Nation Heinken DJ Lounge tour throughout the month of August and is gearing up for quite ambtious album tour beginning next month along side such fellow rappers as Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifia, Lupe Fiasco, Meek Mill, Big Sean and many more.
