The singles from Dustin Prestige’s most recent release, The Kelly & Jessie EP, have shown an artist unafraid to experiment, unafraid to delve into new sounds and bend genres in new and exciting ways. And continuing down that path – displaying pride, insight, and vulnerability – the Missouri City, Texas, rapper invites the world to get even closer to the man behind the microphone with his latest, “Army Of Me.” “The inspiration behind the song,” explains Prestige, “was a breakup, and the fight to stay on level ground afterwards.”
Popping up again behind the boards for “Army Of Me” is Chris Rockaway, who, in addition to producing the entirety of The Kelly & Jessie EP, continues to make his name known working with peers like Hollywood FLOSS, and others. And he’s no stranger genre-bending work with Dustin; “Army Of Me” picks up right where previous single “Rise” left off, mixing forceful kicks and heavy guitar licks. Effortlessly combining them with samples from hit ’80s sitcom Saved By The Bell (what The Kelly and Jessie EP is loosely based around), Rockaway provides the perfect bar stool for Dustin to sing his heart out, as he trades his prolific raps for a more soulful mix of harmonies as he belts out, “The next shot that I have is sure to kill me.”
