Kellee Patterson is a native of Gary, Indiana and as a child she won many talent contests and was often competing with The Jackson 5. She later became the first Black Miss Indiana in 1971 under the name Patricia Patterson. Between 1974 and 1979 she recorded four albums. Her first album was titled after and contained a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage” on the Black Jazz label. Her second album, Kellee, was an assortment of cover songs that was noticed for her rendition of Barry White’s “I’m Gonna Love You A Just A Little More, Baby.” Be Happy was her third release and “If It Don’t Fit, Don’t Force It” earned Gold status and became her most popular release. “Turn On The Lights” and “Yesterday Was Love” were also marked for Patterson’s pleasing vocal style. All The Things You Are was her last recording and it was rooted in disco. Ms. Patterson sang at a tribute to Michael Jackson in their hometown of Gary, Indiana in 2010.
