The project’s title is derived from the 1989 movie and its sequels “Weekend at Bernies,” which follows two slackers who pretend their murdered employer is still alive. “Bernie Lomack had the beach house, the golf cart that was like a Porsche, all the chicks dug him, threw the dopest parties. Everyone loved him, and even when he was dead, people thought he was alive,” Curren$y explains in his decision to name the album after the film. “They were just like, ‘It’s Bernie, he’s just always smacked.’ Dude was a party man as well as a business man. You gotta appreciate a dude with that party reputation that is working that hard.”

In the upcoming weeks, Curren$y will release three new tracks (“You See It,” “This Is the Life,” and “She Got a Man”) and drop a video for the “#jetsgo” single all while wrapping his Jets Life tour. On Monday, June 6th, Curren$y will perform at New York’s Irving Plaza for yet another sold-out show that will be streamed live via OnSmash.com. And in July, the Jet Life brand will add an international leg on its itinerary with a few special engagements in Europe:

THU July 1st Hove Festival Adrenal, Norway
SAT July 3rd Roskilde Festival Roskilde, Denmark
MON July 5th Melweg Amsterdam, Netherlands
THU July 8th Splash Festival Leipzig, Germany
SAT July 10th Openair Frauenfeld Pferderennbahn, Switzerland

Weekend at Burnies is a follow-up to his critically-acclaimed passion project with producer-savant Alchemist, Covert Coup, “a solid ten-song block of underground head-nodding, uninterrupted by pop hooks, production shifts, or anything else that might break the spell” (New York Magazine). Hailed for it’s “classic and ultramagnetic lyrics,” the free album released exclusively through his website further established Curren$y as “one of the smoothest, most playful flows in the game and is one of the most unexpected stars to emerge from the dirty South” (Huffington Post).

Initially signed to fellow New Orleans rapper C-Murder’s Tru Records in 2001, Curren$y was brought over to Master P’s New No Limit Records in 2002. From 2004-2007, Curren$y enjoyed a stint on Cash Money Records as part of Lil Wayne’s burgeoning Young Money Entertainment before venturing out on his own. Since then he has released a series of mixtapes while focusing on his Jet Life apparel and lifestyle brand.

In 2009, Curren$y was selected as one of XXL Magazine’s “Top 10 Freshman” in recognition of his talent and drive amongst the likes of B.O.B, Kid Cudi, Wale and others.

In 2010, Curren$y released his Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk II albums through Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash’s BluRoc Records distributed by Def Jam Recordings. The two mixtapes sold almost 100K units and helped the talented lyricist generate over $750K in touring on his own. Originally slated to come out in March 2011, Curren$y still plans to release the Muscle Car Chronicles album and movie later this year.
