As one-third of the jazzy hip-hop group Digable Planets, Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira emerged as a rapper in 1992. Her airy enunciations added an anchor of female energy to the trio. The group released two critically acclaimed albums with the first one going Gold and winning a Grammy. By 1995 Mecca left the fold and the group dissolved until they went on a reunion tour in 2005. She made a permanent departure from Digable Planets that year and released her solo album Trip The Light Fantastic. In 2010 she gave an interview and talked about her work as a DJ under the name of Ladybug Mek.
