Satiating a musical void for their swarms of admirers, J*DaVeY hits us with a cover they strongly identify with, Nirvana’s iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” “Nirvana, as well as this song, embodies a realism and ‘fuck-it’ mechanism that Jack and I attempt to create in everything we do” says producer, Brook D’Leau. The grunge era anthem is given a lusty makeover with Jack Davey lacing her alluring vocals over unrivaled pulsating beats provided by sound virtuoso Brook, who flips the guttural track and slows it down to produce something chic and beguiling.

When asked why exactly this cover was chosen, J*DaVeY expressed admiration towards the original, stating, “We’re all insignificant in the grand scheme and feeling low becomes the high. Not sure if I’ve heard any other song that tongues the cheek of that concept so brilliantly” The song still reeks of sex and rebellion but in lieu of shredding guitars and raspy screams, Jack and Brook sweat out breathy lyrics and airy synths, offering up a dreamy, syrupy, ethereal version of one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

Leave your flannel and ripped jeans bedside, and succumb to the perceptible smoky haze and let the driving bass coerce you to the brink. As the haunting melodies fade along with Jack’s grip, you’ll be left feeling spent, yet relaxed.
