Happy Birthday to James Marshall Hendrix who would have been 68 years old today. Two weeks ago his estate released West Coast Seattle Boy, a new box set of Jimi’s early recordings as a sideman, alternate takes of established songs and songs never heard before. Valleys Of Neptune came out earlier this year as well as the re-release of his studio catalog. As the Jimi Hendrix industry keeps on churning it’s too bad the estate hasn’t been as generous about allowing his music to appear in a film about his life. Andre 3000 will soon be too old to play him and therefore take his image to the Black audience Hendrix always wanted. It’s also unfortunate that the estate has not reached out to a variety of urban artists to do a tribute to him instead of the usual suspects.
