“Welcome (Gotta Go)” is the second video from Black Milk’s Album Of The Year. Black Milk’s videos are bringing needed visuals of Detroit at an important time because the world must remember and understand that Detroit is still an artistic city with its own rhythm inspiring people like him. The sparseness of the video is powerful because it forces the audience to think about the city and his connection to it. Flashy cars, women and a posse would’ve distracted from the reality that Detroit is
experiencing economic hardships and political corruption but is also culturally rich.
All the bad press around Detroit’s economic status and political corruption were making a lot of people think that Detroit had nothing to offer but Motown Records and Eminem. Despite the druddery and death of J.Dilla, Detroit’s creative pulse is thriving.
