Unsung is doing an episode on Teddy Pendergrass and here is a preview. In this clip various folk discuss Teddy’s first hit, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

Very disappointing show. Teddy made memorable renditions of a multitude of songs. We only heard a few of them. There was more talking than singing. Was I was very hurt that he was repeatedly called arrogant and full of himself. Also, There were many things missing. One of which was that his mother stood him on a chair so he could sing in church at age 3,4? But, of course that would have made him endearing, wouldn’t it? You didn’t even let him sign off on his own tribute. Some choir sang the last song in the tribute, not Teddy.
