Melvin Van Peebles has turned his pioneering independent Black film into a musical with Greg Tate’s organized noise machine Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber. Peebles wants people to wake back up and take not of the same color issues that were going on in America when the movie came out that still live today. Maybe he needs to bring it back to Detroit since that was one of the two cities where it ran upon debut because Detroit still carries the spirit of apartheid where whites believe the worst stereotypes about Blacks are “natural realities” in a post-racial world. In other words because the ex mayor is a troubled Black man all Black men from Detroit are troubled men.
