Xscape-Who Can I Run To
Xscape was a quartet consisting of LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle from Atlanta. The Scott sisters met the other two members at a church in the suburb of College Park. They were discovered by Jermaine Dupri who quickly signed them to his So So Def record label. Their first album Hummin’ Comin’ At ‘Cha was released in ’93 and the first single “Just Kickin’ It” established them as a hot new group with commercial power because the song went to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. “Understanding” was another strong single from the album that became an urban anthem as well. There were two more singles “Love On My Mind” and “Tonight” that helped the album achieve platinum status. Off The Hook was their subsequent disc in ’95 and “Who Can I Run To” was the centerpiece cover of a song formerly recorded by The Jones Girls. There were three more singles “Feels So Good,” “Can’t Hang” featuring MC Lyte and “Do You Want To” efforts that landed them more platinum merits. In ’96 they joined MC Lyte again on the soundtrack tune “Keep On Keepin’ On” from the movie ‘Sunset Park.’ Xscape could also be heard on the Jermaine Dupri remix of ’96’s most played single in the United States “Always Be My Baby” sung by Mariah Carey. Traces Of My Lipstick was their third full-length project and it spawned four singles “The Arms Of One Who Loves You, “ “My Little Secret,” “Am I Dreamin'” featuring Keith Sweat and Ol Skool and the song “Softest Place On Earth.” Traces also went platinum and preceded the break-up of the group.
