Jody Watley is an R&B diva still at it! Before popular Black female artists
came packaged with a look given to them by a stylist without having earned it Watley was inventing herself at 14 by dancing on Soul Train. Once a member of the three-star lineup of Shalamar (The Howard Hewett, and Jeffrey Daniels version) she left the group and has been solo for twenty-two years. Most people remember her number one hit “Looking For A New Love” but dance fans have followed her club releases years after her commercial zenith. Jody Watley and Janet Jackson were the two Black female performers to max out the video medium with strong dance and in Watley’s case style elements in the ’80’s.Although Aaliyah died before she could truly take the torch from
them it’s wonderful to see Watley still doing it so well. She is working on a new album Chamelon and has re-released The Makeover.
Dam that sounds good… 🙂
