Throwback: O’Bryan- I’m Freaky

O’Bryan came on the music scene in 1982 with a debut on Capitol Records that Don Cornelius helped to make happen. That album Doin Alright had the hit song “The Gigolo” and it began the comparisons to Prince that every multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter has fielded since 1981. “I’m Freaky” came from his second album You And I which also had a single by the same name that was originally performed and penned by Stevie Wonder. His 1984 album Be My Lover contains the popular singles “Lovelite” and “Lady I Love You”. His final album for Capitol was released in 1986 and spawned his last hit single “Tenderoni” and then he disappeared for a while. In 2007 he released First which exhibits his lasting capacity for ballads. His early stuff is classic and can be heard daily on any old school station in the country. The North Carolina native still makes music and keeps a Myspace page.
