Africa Bambaataa is one of the three post James Brown hip-hop originators who along with Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash founded hip-hop in the Bronx. It’s a familiar story that isn’t told enough but it’s up to Herc to start the process of making the movie instead of just complaining. Bambaataa is also the founder of the Universal Zulu Nation hip-hop’s oldest organization that started out as an alternative to gang life. The group went on the first hip-hop tour in 1982 with a trip outside the United States. He is the first hip-hop artist to collaborate with James Brown on the 1984 single “Unity.” “Looking For The Perfect” came after “Planet Rock” and before “Renegades Of Funk” three highly influential songs in the hip-hop, electro and dance genres.
