Philadelphia-based indie label Record Breakin’ Music and NY-based creative collective vicelounge announce their first release of 2008: Record Breakin’ Music Presents Vicelounge – The Digital EP. To celebrate the release, the ep will be available to download in full from indie hip-hop/soul/electronic music specialists MobileUnderground for a limited time at the promotional price of $3.
Tastemaker DJ Junior is the founder of Record Breakin’ Music (RBM) which launched in 2007, taking a straightforward approach to releasing quality new music with a soulful foundation. DJ Junior has been dropping soulful gems for some time now. Eavesdrop, his radio show on WKDU 91.7FM is a weekly staple for music heads tuning in for vintage jazz, soul, broken beat and everything in-between. RBM has already started on the right path with releasing two highly acclaimed compilations, Lend Me Your Ear and Excursions. 2008 will see the launch of a limited edition 7″ series. “This series along with RBM’s full length albums and EPs will continue to introduce our contributions to the music community,” explains DJ Junior. “Our focus has and always will be to present quality music to a culture that embraces it. There’s much more to come.”
The official alliance between RBM and VL was forged after the fall of Studio Distribution left vicelounge without a distribution outlet. DJ Junior was a longtime supporter, having featured the collective on his first release “Lend Me Your Ear”. Tai of VL elaborates: “I came up with a lil’ marketing plan to increase the awareness of vicelounge and RBM. It worked better than we could have imagined. Twenty thousand plus downloads of “supa baby” told us we were onto something special…and now I get to be a pain in Junior’s @$%…”
VL describes themselves as as “educated brothers from the hood; who love soul music; rock guitars; banging hip-hop drums; sweet melodies; fine clothes (will smith converses, nikes, armani, sean john purple label, fresh ties, white v-neck t-shirts, calvin kleins, umbros and girnauds); dope joints at 3am with a chimay or vodka in hand; cuban cigars while king tubby vibing. We produce and sing music that befits our lifestyle rather than a style.”
