Tiff Massey is a Detroit artist who makes wearable sculptures and music. “Detroit Is Black” is her spoken-word piece about gentrification in Detroit and it’s produced by Jeedo X aka Waajeed. You can see her sculptures at her site and hopefully there will be a full-length album to follow the release of “Detroit Is Black.”

Last night the J.Dilla Rebirth Of Detroit listening party took place at the Magic Stick in Detroit. McKinley Jackson, who is the father of late rapper/hypeman Proof debuted his new band The Philanthropists of Soul. Jackson was accompanied onstage by Amp Fiddler, DJ Dez and others and they paid tribute to the memories of J.Dilla and Proof. Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Bishop Lamont, Phat Kat and Frank Nitt all took to the stage before Waajeed ended the night with a DJ set. The Rebirth of Detroit comes out June 12th.
Invincible and Waajeed have delivered a community-oriented video and it’s good! Detroit can use all the morale boosting it can get.
Here’s a look behind the scenes of Invincible and Waajeed shooting their video for “Detroit Summer.” The finished product is due next week.
[[Invincible]] and Waajeed are releasing a collaborative album together in 2011. On August 10th their “Detroit Summer” 7″ single will be released on the Emergence label. In this video clip they take a tour of Archer’s Record Pressing where the single is being pressed. The song was debuted on Hot 97 last month.
