Black Rock Coalition Orchestra-The Bottle (Live)

Last night the BRC gathered for a repeat of their Gil Scott-Heron tribute show, Pardon Our Analysis: An All-Star Gathering for Gil Scott-Heron. Onstage for “The Bottle” was a bevy of Black boho luminaries including Heron’s collaborator Brian Jackson, Abiodun Oyewole, Sandra St. Victor, Hanifah Walidah, Gordon Voidwell and a host of others. The show took place at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center.

Trailer For Precious

This is the Lee Daniels directed trailer for “Precious,” the film adaptation of Sapphire’s novel “Push.” They’ve changed the name to Precious, who is the lead character in the story.

Make sure you go see “Push” and you might even want to read it first. The author Sapphire has been around for some time and was known for her fierce poetry before Push the novel came out in ’96 and became one of the most talked about books that year. Lee Daniels is known for being involved with movies that confront taboos and deal with broken people who transform and heal. He produced “Monster’s Ball” and directed “Shadowboxer.” Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey, Mo’Nique and newcomer Gabourney Sidibe make for an interesting cast.
