Chuck D’s Artmageddon Show Will Open January 12th At Shephard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects Gallery

Chuck D’s watercolor art will make its public debut January 12th at Shephard Fairey’s Subliminal Arts Gallery in Los Angeles. The show is a surprise because Chuck D is known as the founder of Public Enemy and a member of the Prophets Of Rage band. Artmageddon is the name of the exhibit and Chuck D said this in a press release:

“Like hip-hop, visual art has the power to deliver a message with an explosive force. Shepard has created a space to remind us all that visual art has a voice, a place, an impact on the world we are living in.  It insists that you think and makes you feel. I’m humbled to have my work hang on the walls of Subliminal Projects.”

Chuck D’s visual art is in the permanent collection at The Smithsonian’s National Museum Of African American History And Culture. Last year the hip-hop legend released the solo album Celebration Of Ignorance. For more information on Subliminal Projects check out their website.

Chuck D Is Releasing A Book On Hip-Hop History

On October 10, Chuck D Presents This Day In Hip-Hop History will be available at all major retailers and Amazon. The book is a chronology of hip-hop’s history beginning with a 1973 house party where Kool DJ Herc debuted the break on his turntables. The anthology gives the history of the art form from those early days with Herc up until the present. Portraits created by Shepard Fairey of more than 100 major figures in hip-hop brings the history off the page and makes each entry flow. LL Cool J says,

“Reading this book is like reliving my life all over again”

Kendrick Lamar gave his recommendation:

“If you want to understand our culture. To learn knowledge itself. Truth about the art form of poetry in motion. The struggle of our community through rhyme and rhythm. This is the book that inspired me long before I found my place in hip-hop, The power of self-expression. Unapologetically. Taught by the teacher himself. Chuck D!!!.”

The Public Enemy frontman just saw the release of the self-titled debut from his other group Prophets Of Rage.

Public Enemy Release Free New Album Today To Celebrate 30th Anniversary

Public Enemy has released a new album today for the fans in celebration of their 30th anniversary. Nothing Is Quick In The Desert can be downloaded from Public Enemy’s Bandcamp page until midnight ET. Ice-T, PMD of EPMD, Easy Mo Bee, Professor Griff, Sammy Vegas and Solé. Chuck D. made a statement for the release:

“After 30 years, 106 tours across 105 countries and countless records, thank you,” says Public Enemy frontman Chuck D. “This one is on Public Enemy.  Get it while it’s free. ‘Nothing Is Quick In The Desert’ is a saying I use when the average person looks at the record industry, it looks dead like a desert. But there’s plenty of life in the desert when one is educated on what they see and hear. There, a cactus absorbs and stores water deep in its root, taken from the air itself and certain creatures thrive in that dry heat whereas the average cannot. It pays to be above average (or well below it) in the desert for survival. The music industry is similar in that analogy. It’s still in motion, it just needs redefinition.”
