Noname Releases First Video With Blaxploitation Film

Noname released her first video today with the short film for “Blaxploitation.” Director Alex Lill places a young Black boy in the city at night where he tries to overcome his environment in a surreal walk through town as a giant-sized person. “Blaxploitation” is from Noname’s critically lauded Room 25 album that came out this year. The Chicago rapper had another first when she recently made her late-night television debut on Stephen Colbert’s show. She is getting ready for a 37-city tour that will begin in Detroit on January 2nd and tickets are on sale now.

Noname Will Replace Cover Art For Room 25 In Light Of Artist’s Arrest For Domestic Violence

Noname announced on Twitter today that she will be replacing the cover art for her Room 25 album because Chicago artist Bryant Giles was arrested for domestic battery on October 8th. The best friend of victim Ellie Danisch posted the police report to social media. Shea Vaughn-Gabor also stated in her post that Giles is a rapist. Noname made it clear that she will not support abusers and she fully supports all victims of domestic violence.

Noname: Room 25 Album Stream

Noname’s Room 25 came out today and it is a lovely successor to her Telephone mixtape. She raps about her skills, colonization and being free in America among the layer of topics. Her two-year break has her rhymes stacked heavier and provided more confidence in her mellow delivery. Noname works with fellow Chicagoan Phoelix again who produced all the songs on Room 25. She credits her exposure to comedians in Los Angeles for the comedic elements on the album. The title also refers to the fact that she lost her virginity at age 25 and she says that influenced the more explicit tone of the record. She will kick off her North American tour for the album in January.

Noname’s Room 25 Is Coming Out This Friday

Noname’s Room 25 debut album is coming out this Friday (September 14th) and today she shares the artwork. Two years ago she emerged with her critically acclaimed Telefone mixtape that quickly identified her as a new artist to watch. The Chicago rapper started her career writing poetry and appeared on early mixtapes from Chance The Rapper and Mick Jenkins. She shared the stage with Chance The Rapper on Saturday Night Live last year as they performed a song from his Coloring Book breakthrough album. The artwork for Room 25 was created by Chicago artist Bryant Giles.
