Will Jordan Peele, Denzel Washington, Octavia Spencer, Mary J. Blige or Daniel Kaluuya take home any Oscars this year?
What’s the major announcement coming from A Tribe Called Quest on Monday?
Mary J. Blige has two Oscar nomination for Dee Ree’s Mudbound. She is being recognized for the Best Supporting Actress role and “Mighty River” is nominated for Best Original Song. Blige co-wrote “Mighty River” with Raphael Saadiq and she has become the first person to be nominated for a performance and song in the same year and film. Rachel Morrison is the first woman to be nominated for cinematography for her work on Mudbound. Dee Rees also has a first as a woman in the category for Adapted Screenplay with co-writer Virgil Williams.
Mudbound takes place in Mississippi during World War II and follows the lives of two veterans one Black and one white after they return home. Blige played Florence Jackson who is the matriarch of her family. Racism and PTSD are looked at and felt through the eyes of each man.
The movie gives Netflix an inaugural nomination for a film that is not a documentary.
The Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 4th at 8PM ET on ABC. See the full list of nominations here.

Mary J. Blige had a great birthday yesterday because she received her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The day was also declared Mary J. Blige day in Hollywood. Her neverending work ethic has produced a new single called “Bounce Back.” The song addresses the personal changes she has experienced while going through her divorce and getting the focus back on her joy.
Mary J. Blige will receive her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame January 11th which is also her birthday. Her longtime friend and mentor Diddy will attend the ceremony and help Hollywood Chamber president and CEO Leron Gubler introduce the star. Blige became the voice for so many women of her generation after the release of her debut album What’s The 411? As the Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul, she channeled sadness and joy into a sound that defined the ’90s and has crossed over the current generation. Her acting credits include last year’s Mudbound which has earned her Critics’ Choice, SAG and Golden Globe nominations. On January 7th she will attend the Golden Globe Awards.
