SWV & The Soul Cypher At The Soul Train Awards

The 2017 Soul Train Awards aired last night and Erykah Badu hosted the show again. She started the night by kneeling in reference to Colin Kaepernick’s NFL controversy. SWV performed a medley of their songs and were later joined by Method Man and U-God. The Soul Cypher featured Mali Music, Faith Evans, Fantasia and Bilal doing their best R&B ad-libbing. The Roots’ Tiny Desk Concert With Bilal

The Roots and Bilal with a horn section including Jeff Bradshaw perform a 12-minute concert of “It Ain’t Fair” for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concerts. The song is from the Detroit soundtrack and their contribution to the music has become one of the most memorable things about the film.

The Roots and Bilal give a stirring performance of “It Ain’t Fair” from the Detroit soundtrack on The Tonight Show. The combination of Bilal, the orchestra and The Roots created emotions reflective of the tension Detroit’s 1967 riot and its aftermath. They gave one of the best shows ever on late night television.

The Roots: It Ain’t Fair Featuring Bilal From The Detroit Soundtrack

“It Ain’t Fair” is a new song from The Roots and Bilal from the soundtrack to Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit. They used the music of the ’60’s as their inspiration and created a soulful piece to reflect 1967 today. Detroit opens in national theaters next Friday (August 4th).

Hezekiah & Bilal Collaborate On Against The Odds From Gods EP

Hezekiah just released his Gods EP of hip-hop material and “Against The Odds” is a collaboration with Bilal. The Philadelphia artist usually performs with the alternative band Johnny Popcorn but he found a lot of unreleased music on his hard drive. The Gods EP has features from T3 of Slum Village, Blu, Freeway, Queen Jo, Peedi Crakk and The Bul. Gods is available now from Hezekiah’s Bandcamp page.
