Sankofa is a string band dedicated to folk music and “If Wishes Were Gold” is the first single from The Uptown Strut. The album was a work-in-progress since 2009 and it is a collection of mostly cover songs but Allison Russell wrote “If Wishes Were Gold” about an unfulfilled personal relationship.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops are a folk group from North Carolina who have taken the genre and blended it with current sounds. “Country Girl” is from their Leaving Eden album that came out in February.
