Prince’s Sign o’ The Times was the first album without The Revolution and became the subject of his one and only concert film. Critics labeled it Prince’s best-ever production because of the masterful elevation of his influences. “Adore” was not released as a single but the soulful ballad entered Black radio late at night and warmed up quiet storm playlists. Prince’s promise to give a lover his mind, body and soul in one of the most yearning falsettos was the pinnacle of romance in R&B. Sexy horns, the pace of a slow courtship and Prince’s words sounded like honeymoon bliss. Sign o’ The Times ended its trip through Prince’s fervent 1987 pop opus with an ambrosial love song.
