The Motown story has a new Showtime documentary called Hitsville: The Making Of Motown. The Showtime documentary uncovers the workings of the legendary Detroit record label by talking to its founder Berry Gordy and many others who were there as well as contemporary artists such as John Legend. Motown’s neighborhood operation produced some of the greatest recording artists ever including The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Gordy explains in the trailer how they were industrious enough to have everything done in-house and how the political tensions during the ’60s influenced the Motown sound. Hitsville: The Making Of Motown will air on Showtime August 24th at 9 PM ET.
