Jean Grae & Quelle Chris:My Contribution To This Scam Official Video

Jean Grae and Quelle Chris share the video for their foggy sounding critique of the hip-hop industry “My Contribution To This Scam.” The video is a cartoon and they are comical-looking figures who spend a day at home doing a bunch of things like calling a psychic hotline. Grae’s dry wit pokes fun at people’s obsession with social media and Chris takes a jab at those who only write bars for barcodes. Everything Is Fine is a sardonic reflection of mainstream life in America during the Trump era.

Prince: Why The Butterflies (Piano & A Microphone 1983 Version)

Prince’s famous vault has been opened since his 2016 passing and this month Piano And A Microphone will be released by his estate. Fans have already heard his haunting cover of “Mary Don’t You Weep” and today you can listen to “Why The Butterflies.” The song is a sketch of a song with Prince working out his ideas on the piano. The lyrics were unfinished but there is still something to be heard when Prince is creating at whatever stage. All of the songs for the new album were recorded on cassette at his Kiowa Trail home studio in 1983. Prince was having success with his 1999 album and was getting ready to become a bona fide worldwide star with Purple Rain when he recorded these songs. Piano And A Microphone comes out September 21st.

In other Prince-related news, 4U: A Symphonic Celebration Of Prince which is a presentation of his music with an orchestra and narration by Questlove is on tour now. Tickets can be purchased from the official website

Nissi Returns With TwoBadGuyz-Produced Singe Undercover

Nissi collaborates with UK Afrobeats producer TwoBadGuyz on her new single “Undercover.” She opened up about the process behind “Undercover” in a press release:

“‘Undercover’ really is just a vibe. We recorded it the very first we met. TwoBadGuyz was playing me some draft instrumentals he was working on, and once I heard this one, I literally started freestyling onto it. The song lyrics really talk about the thrill of doing something that isn’t necessarily right, but feels like it is, so you do it anyway. The boisterous production definitely demanded this kind of daring and free songwriting from me.”

Nissi started making music a couple of years ago and has shown her appreciation for R&B, jazz and pop. “Undercover” is her first time making a dancehall-inspired record and it is  the third single to leak before the release of her debut EP The Virus. coming out this fall.
