Daniel Caesar had a major breakthrough last year when he released his Freudian debut album independently on his Golden Child label. The album was the next step in his recording career after releasing the Praise Break and Pilgrim’s Paradise EPs in 2014 and 2014. The native Canadian also made a buzz at home by winning two Junos, Canada’s most prestigious music industry award. He had two Grammy nominations this year for his “Get You” duet with Kali Uchis and Freudian was considered for R&B Album of the Year.
Caesar made his Tiny Desk introduction this month and performed with his band and three supporting singers. He opens his three-song set with “Japanese Denim” and proceeds to make the show feel more like a late-night intimate club appearance.
