Brittany Howard & Questlove Perform At RRHOF Tribute To Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Alabama Shakes vocalist Brittany Howard and Questlove took part in the tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Tharpe was posthumously inducted with the Award for Early Influence because of her pioneering contributions to rock and roll. Howard performed “That’s All” which Tharpe recorded twice and was a permanent song on her touring setlist. The induction is the first time Tharpe has received major recognition even though she is called the Godmother Of Rock and Roll because her work came before Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash and Little Richard who she actually put on stage for his first time.

Working alongside the show’s veteran stars, including Vanessa Bell Calloway, Clifton Powell, and Keith Robinson, most would never guess that twice in two years, the determined 26-year-old thespian almost lost his life to street gun violence.

Tank And The Bangas Brings Out New Single Smoke.Netflix.Chill

Tank And The Bangas’s 420-friendly “Smoke.Netflix.Chill” is a new song they posted yesterday just in time for the green holiday today. Lead singer Tarriona Tank told NPR Music she wrote the song from the perspective of a woman who is initiating the Netflix get-together instead of a man. The New Orleans band is at Coachella this weekend and on Saturday they will release their Live Vibes album exclusively for Record Store Day. They will be on tour throughout the summer with stops in the United States and Europe.

Chaka Khan Performs I’m Every Woman On Jimmy Kimmel Live!

 Chaka Khan visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! and performed “I’m Every Woman” for the studio audience. She was there to celebrate the ending of the TV show Scandal which aired its final episode last night. “I’m Every Woman” was used as a theme song for Olivia Pope who the show’s main character portrayed by Kerry Washington.
