Watch: Lauryn Hill Perform At Nina Simone’s RRHOF Induction Ceremony

 Nina Simone was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Lauryn Hill performed a three-song tribute to her. She sang “Ne Me Quitte Pas,” “Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair” and “Feeling Good.” Mary J. Blige gave the induction speech at the ceremony that took place Saturday in Cleveland. Nina Simone’s brother Nyack Sam Waymon accepted the honor on behalf of his late sister. Andra Day also performed “I Wish I Knew How It Felt To Be Free” and “I Put A Spell On You” with The Roots. The event will air May 5th at 8 PM ET on HBO.

Donald Glover Will Host And Perform On SNL

Donald Glover will host and perform on Saturday Night Live May 5th. His Childish Gambino persona, that he promised to retire will take the stage. The appearance on SNL takes Glover back to the beginning of his career when he was a member of the Derrick Comedy group that performed sketch comedy on the internet. The actor and musician returned to television for the second season of his FX show Atlanta last month. It is another big year for Glover as he was just seen in the trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story which has a May 25th release date. He is also the voice of Simba in the remake of The Lion King

Kendrick Lamar Becomes First Hip-Hop Artist To Win Pulitzer

Kendrick Lamar has become the first hip-hop artist to win a Pulitzer Prize today for his album DAMN. On the website, DAMN is described as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.” In the past, the Pulitzer for music has gone to Thelonius Monk, Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington, Hank Williams, John Coltrane, George Gershwin and Wynton Marsalis. Hip-Hop has never been recognized by the Pulitzer Prize Board until now.The award comes with a $15,000 payment and a certificate that he will receive at the ceremony next month.

OWN’s Docu-Series Black Love Returns May 12th

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today the second season premiere of its hit docu-series “Black Love” on Saturday, May 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The series which highlights love stories from the Black community debuted last fall with 1.2 million total viewers, becoming OWN’s most-watched unscripted series debut in network history and its highest-rated unscripted series debut in more than four years in the network’s key W 25-54 demo.
 
This second season will feature Emmy Award-winning actor Sterling K.
