Throwback: Lisa Stansfield-All Around The World

Lisa Stansfield’s “All  Around The World” put her in the unusual place of being an immediately accepted white British singer of R&B. In 1989, Teena Marie had been the only white woman to make an impact on American R&B fans and radio. Stansfield’s sultry low notes and soulful shrilling communicated a respect for tradition and the appearance of a unique new voice. “All Around The World” was the singer’s industry breakthrough given its no. 1 chart status, Grammy nominations and the Ivor Novello Award she and her co-songwriters won in her native Great Britain. Stansfield re-recorded the song in 1992 with Barry White as a duet for charity and there is a separate video for their version. The remixes of “All Around The World” were included in the 2014 deluxe re-release of her albums Affection, Face Up and the People Hold On…Remix Anthology. Stansfield’s eighth album, Deeper appeared in April of 2018 introduced by the single “Billionaire.”
