Black Panther’s soundtrack has as much excitement around it as the actual movie. The 14-song collection was curated by Kendrick Lamar who was handpicked by director Ryan Coogler. Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment is also behind the music chosen for the soundtrack. Lamar, Sza, Jay Rock and anderson. paak are among the artists with songs on the album. Lovebug Starski, one of hip-hop’s early pioneers passed today of a heart attack in Las Vegas at the age of 60. The producer, DJ and rapper was a native of the Bronx and spent the ’70s participating in the early block parties and playing music at the legendary Disco Fever club. He is one of the people credited with coming up with the term ‘hip-hop’ and some of the most-repeated phrases in rap. He was rapping with Grandmaster Flash before there was a Furious Five and a hip-hop recording industry. By the ’80s, he was making his own music for the Fever Records label and producing for Run DMC. According to Jonathan Shecter, founding editor of The Source, Lovebug Starski had shared the stage with KRS-One in Las Vegas last week. Last year the innovator gave an interview to Amoeba and shared the details of his days creating hip-hop in the Bronx.
Junglepussy is returning with her third album later this year and longtime collaborator Shy Guy is the producer. “State Of The Union” is the first single from the project and Junglepussy addresses her supporters and haters with her usual caustic but reflective bars. The new album follows her 2015 sophomore release Pregnant With Success.
She will go on a European tour later this month and she is appearing in the Andrew Bujalski film Supporting The Girls which will debut at SXSW in March.

Slum Village’s Young RJ has released “I Know” featuring Guilty Simpson and Phat Kat in celebration of Dilla Day(February 7th). “I Know” details the plight of Black men in America dealing with the prison system and economic struggles. It is one of the songs from the collaborative album he is working on with both of the Detroit emcees. Young RJ just released his solo album Blaq Royalty and the Joyner Lucas-assisted single “Motion.”
