Mary J. Blige To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Mary J. Blige will receive her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame January 11th which is also her birthday.  Her longtime friend and mentor Diddy will attend the ceremony and help Hollywood Chamber president and CEO Leron Gubler introduce the star. Blige became the voice for so many women of her generation after the release of her debut album What’s The 411?  As the Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul, she channeled sadness and joy into a sound that defined the ’90s and has crossed over the current generation. Her acting credits include last year’s Mudbound which has earned her Critics’ Choice, SAG and Golden Globe nominations. On January 7th she will attend the Golden Globe Awards.


Erykah Badu Rates Fred Flintstone, Dog Spas & More

Erykah Badu sits for Pitchfork’s Over/Under and she rates dog spas, landlines, period tracking apps and more. Badu just curated the Fela Box Set 4 by Afrobeat king Fela. She recently performed a cover of Fela’s “Sorrow Tears And Blood” and her classic “On & On” on The Tonight Show.


Jay-Z: Family Feud Official Video Feat. Beyonce

Jay-Z’s video for “Family Feud” is another short film with a cast of stars. Beyonce, Blue Ivy, Michael B Jordan, Thandie Newton, Rashida Jones and more are in the video directed by Ava DuVernay and scored by Flying Lotus. Catholic League president Mike Donohue released a statement with his criticism of the clip. Jay-Z confesses to cheating, Beyonce appears as a spiritual official and a council of women discuss the future of America. It all takes place in a church and a murder is the catalyst for the ultimate storyline.


Sza & Kendrick Lamar Collaborate On All The Stars From Black Panther Soundtrack

Kendrick Lamar and Sza are starting 2018 with “All The Stars” from the Black Panther soundtrack. Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony Tiffith are producing and curating the music for the highly anticipated film. Director Ryan Coogler picked Lamar and he worked with the rapper and Tiffith on the soundtrack. Lamar stated in a press release:

“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as the T’Challa king of the fictional Wakanda and it is the most anticipated film of 2018. Several Facebook groups are talking about the movie and have already scheduled screenings. Discussion groups are popping up at colleges and social media is rife with references and hashtags to the film. A Black superhero and an all-Black cast is unusual and despite the existence of other Black characters like Luke Cage and Black Lightning, Panther has garnered the most attention.

Black Panther the movie comes out February 16th and the soundtrack will be released February 9th.
