Blue Note Releases Van Hunt’s Popular Album

Blue Note has released Van Hunt’s third album, Popular after it being shelved since 2007. Van Hunt created this album with an eye on the changes happening in the music industry. He almost became disillusioned about the record’s release but ultimately feels good about it finally being heard by his fans. According to him,

“I’ve cried three times in the last 10 years. And none of those were when I was told that ‘Popular’ wouldn’t be released. I cried whenever I felt justified for making that record. In the face of a churning reality, it took one online comment from a listener, and two emails from Blue Note — one with a release date, and one with the album’s press release – to let me know I wasn’t crazy for hanging on all this time.

The death of the old music industry that inspired him to become a professional artist gave him inspiration regarding its emerging form that in his mind is unstable and reflects the desires of a lot of indie labels who want to be majors. Popular is something he made amidst all the turmoil of those changes. Stream it below and purchase it online.
