[youtube id=”ePi5BLJogyA”] Kelela released the dreamlike video for “LMK” today. The song is the first song from her upcoming Take Me Apart debut. The making of the video was almost a dream come true because longtime Björk collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang directed it. According to Kelela Björk is one artist who shaped her music,
“Despite it being a personal record, the politics of my identity informs how it sounds and how I choose to articulate my vulnerability and strength. I am a black woman, a second-generation Ethiopian-American, who grew up in the ‘burbs listening to R&B, Jazz and Björk. All of it comes out in one way or another.”
Take Me Apart follows her 2015 Hallucinogen EP and since then she has appeared on albums from Solange, Danny Brown and Gorillaz. Kelela is scheduled to perform at the Made In America festival this year and Take Me Apart can be pre-ordered before the October 6th release date.
