Xscape Performs Hit Medley At 2017 BET Awards

Xscape reunited at the BET Awards and led the audience in a singalong of their hits from the ’90s. The crowd joined them on “Understanding” “Who Can I Run To” and “Just Kickin’ It.” They disbanded in 2002 and had a brief reunion in 2005. Those attending the Essence Music Festival this year will have the chance to see their first live show in almost 20 years.

Throwback: Major Harris-Love Won’t Let Me Wait

Major Harris sang with a bunch of doo-wop groups including The Teenagers, Nat Turner’s Rebellion, The Charmers and  The Delfonics before starting a solo career at Atlantic Records in 1974. He was a native of Richmond, Virginia but became known as one of the architects of the Philadelphia soul sound. His brother, Joe Jefferson wrote several hits for The Spinners and his cousin Norman Harris was a musician and former label owner on the Philadelphia scene. Bobby Eli and Gwendolyn Woolfolk wrote “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” and MFSB provided the music on the session. It became a top five hit song on the soul and pop charts and earned Gold certification. Harris would be the first to interpret the song that was covered later by Isaac Hayes, Luther Vandross, Nancy Wilson, and Seal. Harris re-joined The Delfonics in the ’90s and toured with them into the 2000s. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 65 from congestive heart failure.
