Ruff Ryder’s Reunion Concert

Ruff Ryders had their reunion concert last weekend at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Eve, Swizz Beatz, The Lox, Remy Ma, M.O.P., Junior Mafia, Uncle Murda, Cassidy, Fat Joe and DMX gave the crowd some prime nostalgia with a solid show. Newcomers Lil Waah, Drew James and Quadir Lateef also performed and showed the audience the next chapter of the Ruff Ryder’s legacy. Fans have been talking on the internet about DMX’s appearance and have voiced concern. His set was impeded by a non-working microphone and a monologue most did not care to hear. Despite the criticism, fans were still elated to see and hear him.

Maysa Preps New Album With Love Is A Battlefield Single

Maysa has unexpectedly prepared her 13th studio album, Love Is A Battlefield and she has covered the single by Pat Benatar.  Maysa has connected with longtime collaborator Chris “Big Dog” Davis and producers The Heavyweights and Jason Miles to create an album of time-worn classics and new music from Luther Vandross and Big Sean. Maysa commented on the surprise of covering Benatar’s song:

“The reason why I chose ‘Love Is A Battlefield’ is that it has a lot to do with the way the world is today and all of the things we are going through as a people.  As humans, we are surrounded by people who are not choosing love first. People are choosing money over love and compassion. To me, ‘Love Is A Battlefield’ is just that, a battle to allow love to reign over everything.”
Maysa’s Love Is A Battlefield will be released May 26th on Shanachie Entertainment.

Diana Ross’ Diana The Original Chic Mix Is Released On Vinyl For The First Time

Diana Ross’ diana album with the original Chic mixes as envisioned by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards is available now for the first time on vinyl. The double album is on pink vinyl at 45rpm and there are alternate versions of “Upside Down” and “I’m Coming Out.”

Ross originally collaborated with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards to take her sound in a different direction after working with Ashford and Simpson in 1979. Motown and Ross were not pleased with the results because of the recent disco backlash. Russ Terrana, Motown’s engineer, took the album and mixed to have a more commercial sound.

Rodgers and Edwards were angry about the changes to the album and wanted their names removed from it until they saw the album go to #2 on the Billboard 200 and nine million copies sold.

The original Chic mixes were first released to the public on 2003’s diana: deluxe edition. Ross’ album was one of four Chic worked on that year;  Sister Sledge’s Love Somebody Today, Sheila and B. Devotion’s King Of The World and their own studio album, Real People.
