Throwback: Saul Williams-List Of Demands (Reparations)

“List Of Demands (Reparations)” is a poetic, punk and hip-hop sonic trek from Saul Williams’s self-titled second album. Williams’s frenetic but funky demand for justice with a video of Black partygoers in a semi-mosh pit was the very definition of Afropunk. The lyrics call for him to be seen as a man and not a fear fantasy over a beat that samples “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by The Stooges. In between his address to the establishment, he mentions his affection for a girl he wrote a song for and performed standing on his bed. “List Of Demands (Reparations)” was later used in a Nike commercial and covered by The Hives. In 2016, Williams released his sixth studio album MartyrLoserKing.
