Stream Mayer Hawthorne & Jake One’s Tuxedo II

Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One’s first Tuxedo album captured the verve of ’80’s R&B and funk without sounding like a period piece. The underrated project overshadowed Hawthorne’s solo voice and created a desire for more of that sound from him. Tuxedo II is here and you can see them live on tour this summer.


GoldLink Releases At What Cost (Album Stream)

GoldLink’s At What Cost is out now and Kaytranada, Shy Glizzy and Wale are among the guest appearances on the album. As far as the inspiration behind the project he explains,

“I made At What Cost as an ode to my hometown. It’s about the essence of Go-Go and how it’s shaped the city and where I am from, the people, the attitude. I don’t want gentrification to overlook what Go-Go has done and how it’s shaped the city.”

Daley Duets With Jill Scott On Until The Pain Is Gone

Daley and Jill Scott approach the possibility of love after past disappointments on the duet “Until The Pain Is Gone.” Daley started writing the song in 2015 and reached out to Jill Scott, who he met previously in his native London, for her participation. The singer emerged in 2011 with his Those Who Wait EP and released his first album Days + Nights in 2014. His full return to music will happen later this year with the release of his second album titled The Spectrum.


J.Cole: 4 Your Eyez Only Official Trailer

J.Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only documentary will air on HBO April 15th at 10PM EST. It is his second film for HBO and this one will focus on issues of housing, racism and the lack of voting rights for felons among other issues. Cole and Scott Lazer co-directed the piece that has footage from Cole’s native North Carolina, Baton Rouge and Fayetteville. He will perform music from his 4 Your Eyez Only album and the tour will begin in June.


Spoek Mathambo Drops House Single Black Rose

South African producer, songwriter and filmmaker Spoek Mathambo has released the house single “Black Rose” today. Fellow South African artists Damao, Suga Flow and Tamar are featured on the song from Mathambo’s upcoming Mzansi Beat Code. It is his third album and the mix of hip-hop, house and electronic music is deliberate and Mathambo offers his description:

“The album interludes and skits play with ideas of media. I record a lot of sounds with my dictaphone, steal clips from YouTube… Everything clashes to express things that are so specific and local yet global…nostalgic yet right now, or at least yesterday,”

Mzansi Beat Code will be released April 14th.
