British jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine has signed to Freestyle Records in London for his next album Black Notes From The Deep. The multi-instrumentalist is playing tenor sax on the mostly acoustic project which will have vocals from labelmate Omar. Pine has released almost 20 albums in his 30-year career. He states, “This is my first release with Freestyle and I feel fortunate to be involved with a company that thinks with modern progressive thoughts and approaches the ever increasing jazz fan base with an open mind, presenting music with good intentions, heart, spirit and unity.” Black Notes From The Deep will come out in the spring and Pine and Omar will tour the new music throughout the year. Pine’s horn came into the pop world when he appeared on Soul II Soul’s Volume II album.
