Chance The Rapper Is Last 2016 Musical Guest On Saturday Night Live

Chance The Rapper was the last 2016 musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night and he is also the first unsigned rapper to have the opportunity. He performed “Finish Line/Drown,” “Same Drugs” and “Jingle Barack.” The latter was a tribute to Barack Obama’s last month in office and Run DMC’s “Christmas In Hollis.” Chance The Rapper dressed up as DMC and Kenan was Run and by the end of the skit, the real DMC joined them. The Chicago rapper made history by garnering seven Grammy nominations as an independent artist and having the first streaming-only album to be nominated.

Throwback: Robert Randolph & The Family Band-Walk Don’t Walk

Robert Randolph & The Family Band recorded a version of Prince’s “Walk, Don’t Walk” for their 2010 We Walk This Road album. Randolph’s mastery of the pedal steel guitar dominates the cover with Danyel Morgan’s gospel style singing. Randolph explained the story behind the cover to Rolling Stone in 2010 when the album came out and said that Prince even gave his approval. Prince also told Randolph he was the “best guitar player he’d ever seen” after Randolph and his band gave an electrifying performance at the 2004 Grammys. Robert Randolph & The Family Band are getting ready to release their new album, Got Soul in February of 2017.
